The Farmhand and the Landlord

The Farmhand and the Landlord

There was a poor man who worked for a landlord. The landlord made the man work hard all day long. But he paid him very little money, and didn't give him much food.

One day, when the man was having breakfast, the landlord came and  said to him, "It's too much trouble to go to work and then come back for lunch, then go to the fields again and come back for supper. So I want you to have your breakfast and lunch and supper now before you go to the fields."

How could a man eat three meals all together? But the farmhand said, "All right." He finished his breakfast and went out. Half an hour later, when the landlord went out for a walk, he saw the farmhand sitting under a tree and smoking. The landlord was very angry.

"Why aren't you working in the fields?" he asked.

The farmhand said with a smile, "I've already had my supper. And you know very well that after supper it's time to rest."

Answer the questions.

1. Who worked for a landlord?

2. What and how much did the landlord pay the poor man?

3. Why did the landlord want the man to eat breakfast, lunch and supper at the same time before he  went to the fields?

4. Where did the poor man smoke?

5. Why did the farmhand not work on the fields?

Letter of Complaint ( Homework)

Dear Principal,

I am writing to complain about the student's bad behaviour in school library. Some naughty and noisy schoolmates have made the library a very unpleasant place to study.

First of all, they make the library noisy. In the lunchtime, the library is often noisy. Some naughty schoolmates talk and share comic books in the library.

They sometimes leave books around the tables after they read the books either because they do not have a sence of responbility or simply because they are too absent-minded.

Therefore, I think the school should send teachers to keep the library quiet and tidy, so it becomes a nice place for study.

Yours faithfully,
Louis Li(6E)

Write a letter to complain about student's bad behaviour in school canteen.

I am writing to complain about the students bad behaviour in school canteen. Some selfish and careless schoolmates have made the canteen a very unpleasant place.

First of all, they make the canteen dirty. After lunchtime, the floor is often filled with spoons and forks, used tissues and rubbish. Some careless schoolmates drop food and drink on the floor.

They always waste tissues either because they do not have a sense of environmental protection or simply because they are too absent-minded.

Therefore, I think the school should send teachers to help keep the canteen clean, so it becomes a nice place for lunch.

Garfield

">

Garfield is a lazy fat cat. He lives with his master, John, together in a big house. Garfield likes sitting in a comfortable armchair in front of the television, eating his favourite popcorn and drinking coffee. He loves playing tricks on his master.

One day John took some books home in a box. He left the box in the sitting room when he got into his room for his study.

Garfield was very excited getting into the box. He imagined that he was on a car racing ride on the street. He drove faster and faster. He nearly hit another car. The crowd was getting wild. Garfield became thirsty. He drove to the Pizza stall and bought a drink. He drove past all the other cars. Now he was very very near to the finish line. Then he was waken by John.

Garfield was getting back into the box. He imagined that he was on a fighter plane flying high in the sky. He flew into the cloud. he nearly hit a postman. The postman dropped all his letters on the ground. He flew higher and higher. He looked for the enemy fighters. He saw three fighter planes at his back. He shot them one by one. The pilots escaped with their parachutes. Garfield found that his plane was running out of gas and it started falling. Then he was waken by John again.

John brought Odie into the house to play with Garfield. Garfield didn't want to share the box with Odie. Odie kept jumping into the box. At last Garfield let Odie stay in the box. Garfield and Odie started their boat journey drifting in the middle of the sea. Garfield was counting the time and days while Odie was wondering what to do. Garfield thought about the food he could eat. He was looking at Odie which turned into a huge hamburger. Garfield licked the hamburger and Odie licked back. They were stopped by John.

John drove Garfield and Odie out of the house. John played with the box now. He put the box on his head pretending that he was a knight servicing the King and the Queen. He was honoured by them as a great knight.

Garfield and Odie were looking through the window. They saw John having fun with the box. Garfield complained that John didn't want them to have fun.

Now they saw a round rubbish tank in the garden. They both got into the tank. In the tank they saw themselves shooting up high into the sky. It was the rocket taking them into the outer space. It was really exciting.
